We hear all the teachings on building on a good foundation, but we don’t hear much teaching on building the foundation good. There is definitely a distinct difference in the two, and we see its effect on the lives of many Christians everyday: “What You Build On It, Will Come Down To It.” The problem for us in having a good foundation, especially in today’s atmosphere, is that we just have too many people doing foundation building in the Body of Christ. Instead of placing our order to receive a good foundation from a master builder of foundations, and then we go build thereon; we all are becoming foundation builders, and then we go on to build thereon. I may not be skilled enough to build the foundation good, but I can still have all of the supplies, resources, and support that is required to build a good foundation. I am sure that I could build a flood wall to protect my home from rising water if need be, but you don’t want me building anything for you when it comes to protecting a neighborhood, community, or city of any size that would require the knowledge of engineers, weather professionals, and area organizers of such construction. I may have the resources to buy the stuff needed to construct a good flood wall or levee, but I do not have the required knowledge or skill to actually construct a flood wall or levee good enough to withstand the forces of nature that will come to test it. Everyone can get their hands on the foundation of Jesus Christ, but everyone can not set forth the proper foundation needed for members of the Body to build thereon: there are some major forces that will come to test your foundation, and it can not just be one house ready capable. The forces that will be coming against your one house will be coming with forces that only a master foundation builder can even know to include in its preparations.
1 Corinthians 3:10, “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” The Apostle Paul, and this would be your Pastor for example, has spent time laying the foundation for another to buildeth thereon; and it is set for another to then take that common foundation, and go with it to the next level for your life. The foundation should be common to all members because the foundation to build on, Jesus Christ, is the only foundation that is laid for us. And since there is but one foundation laid for us, we will be able to withstand what comes against us if the only foundation laid, is laid good. There are many trying to lay a good foundation for others to follow, but only because the foundation is so good itself. One just can’t lay a good foundation of Jesus to build thereon, just because Jesus is Good. Yeah, Jesus is good, but the problem isn’t whether Jesus is good, but are you good in laying down the good of Jesus in the lives of others? What You Build On It, Will Come Down To It: It being the foundation. If you have been blessed to receive the good foundation of Jesus Christ from one who can lay that foundation good in your life, you will be able to take it and build upon it. And it is easy to build upon it once the foundation builder in your life, whether Apostle Paul or your called Pastor, has set a plan that fits who you are. A master builder of foundations, does not just preach to you in the ways in which you should go, but will walk with you with the help of staff ministers and officers through you trials in the ways that you should go. And when you begin to build on that foundation, the work thereon that you put your hands to, will come down to it, your foundation. Think of yourself as a young quarterback in college or in the NFL, your offensive coordinator, or master builder will run foundation plays for the team that fit your ability so that you can have success at game time. The offensive coordinator’s working foundation from the big book will be that in which you can apply your talents thereon to the battle on the field. The work that you do on the field will be What You Build On It, and It Will Come Down To your foundation. Every body is not able to take the foundation, and know how to build you up to take your gifts thereon to victory on the field. What I see in your foundation work is what I should look to see in your work as you go thereon to the battle field. The confidence in who you will go on to become, should be found in the foundation applications laid out for you from your master builder: What You Build On It, Will Come Down To It.
