Most of us at one time of another have run off on our own selfish mission to have life our way. And it wasn’t to go seek the place that serves hamburgers the way in which we want them, but it was to find the place that would serve up life the way in which we wanted it. There have always been those who were blinded by the silver blanket of protection in which they were blessed to have in their life, and still somehow, be compelled by the forces of lawn mower heaven, to go seek the true grass that was greener in their imagination, on the other side. I don’t really want to spend much time on the story of the prodigal son, because even most elementary level bible lessons, will have already given you enough to understand the gist behind the story. The father of the prodigal son is a depiction or shadow type of our Father in heaven: as with the natural father who forgave his younger son for running off to waste his inheritance, our Father in heaven is always ready even more than seventy times seven to forgive us when we run off to waste our inheritance paid for on the cross by Jesus. Now, here is where I want to take my twist in the story: why is it that we must make God out to be only the Father of prodigal son be alikes. I know, it certainly always seem to be the case, that the Father hung up his shingle to say open for business to all only if you need to return from sin, and to receive forgiveness for already being written in the living Will and testament of your co-heir, my Son Jesus Christ. No, no, no, that is not the way the Father wants this thing to go. Jesus died on the cross to wipe out the sin debt once and for all, so that we could be free to live a full life. We do not have to be prodigal son be alikes, and go out and get a spiritual record by messing up first, just to have to come back to that in which we were already given all along. And here is where I want to bring in the older sibling of the prodigal son: it is only obvious that this well mannered, do all daddy said in the light, had some issues which were never brought to the table until after the prodigal son returned home.
Okay, here we go. I would have liked to have heard some of the conversations that went on between the two brothers behind closed doors before the younger brother even grazed the thoughts of the greener grass that would lead to him becoming a prodigal son. You know as I know, the younger sibling is always looking up to the older sibling, especially if the older sibling even got a little bit going on. And being brothers at that, what did this older brother feed the younger brother all the years leading up to the younger brother decision to leave. I would also like to know what it was that the older brother showed to the younger brother by the life in which he lived. Are we suppose to believe that the older brother had no input in the younger brother’s decision to leave over the long process of time leading up to his departure? I can imagine the younger brother looking at the older brothers boring life, and coming to the conclusion that this life of his is not for me. And we have all indications by the response from the older brother, after the return of the younger brother, that he was not inspired to do much with all the resources at his finger tips. The greatest indication to me was his response to his father, “you didn’t do that for me:” my God, I’ve been the older sibling, the father will just about co-sign anything you do that makes a little bit of sense, that allows fathers to poke out that badge of chest honor about all that his son is doing. And besides, we know how those younger sibling make the eyes of their father just glow from the love for them in their hearts. It may have been mission accomplish when baby brother left, and it may have been London bridges breaking down in the mind of the older brother upon his return. We have seen this play out through out the bible over and over in a let’s get you away from our loving father baby brother. The father tells the older brother that he could have already had as many parties as he wanted, but he did nothing to make it happen. The younger brother may have asked for more things earlier as the baby child always does, and received them, making him seem more favored. This could have just been that his progressive personality on display, and he received more only because he asked the most: and as for as the father was concerned, the older brother just didn’t desire any more up to that point.
So, to all of us who became the prodigal son at one time, and to all who didn’t have to quite go that route to the same degree, the Father in heaven as an inheritance ready for both paths now. The Father wants you to go for it now; go and get what you need from him to be happy, and to be a good influence on those who are around you. No one really wants to leave a place of happiness unless they have received faith from what they heard that leads them to believe otherwise about their future. Do people that know you, want what you have in the Lord, or would they rather just keep the separation of your Lord and their friendship the ongoing model for your relationship? Let’s Don’t Make God Out To Be Only The Father Of Prodigal Son Be Alikes. Christ came that we might have life is right, but just having life is not a good marketing plan if you hope to pull over new customers to your life. However, if we lived as we should, that is to have life more abundantly, now we start to turn more heads toward our life style. Regardless of what you may say, you will catch more bees with honey on your bread of life than you will with just a piece of the dry bread of life. The inheritance is yours now, and the Father wants you to have it now: go have your happy now.
