If you separate the two concepts, the natural man vs the spiritual man, you can at times have your cake and eat it too: meaning you can have two good things at the same time. Now, we know at times there are trials and tribulations that we go thru to which we just can not avoid. There is also the matter of sewing bad deeds toward one another where you pay up for what you rendered: when it is time to pay the fiddler, well it’s just time to pay the fiddler. Then there is the matter of making bad choices in which you pay a price in the natural that God was not trying to do with you in the spiritual. I see people all the time taking the scenic route to their destination simply because they were not ready to listen at the time. The scenic route was not God’s intent for them, but you remember how God will allow you to wonder in your scenic wilderness for forty years if that’s what it takes to clear out bad listening. On behalf of those that are willing to fix their listening problem sooner than later, and stop making unforced errors with their decisions, I thank God that we have the kingdom’s insurance plan. This plans protects and supports our families in times when we experience the error of our decision- making ways. We can read the insurance plan in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”.

So how can we have our cake and eat it too? First of all, we know that we will have our cake because spiritually it is working together for good in order for it to become a reality. Secondly, we have to listen naturally to select decisions that will make it light on our lives, allowing us to arrive at the place to eat the cake Father already has for us. Matthew 11:30 says, For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. If we would make more decisions where the yoke is easy and the burden is light, we would find ourselves eating our cake with joy while having a never-ending supply of it continually coming our way. The problem is that we think that the Godhead need more help from us than it request. And every time we become the natural helper man beyond request, we get off track to where we still have our cake, but we are not able to eat it too. In the natural when you take on more debt than you can bear, you still have your cake as promised, but you can’t eat it too: the natural man has placed you on a scenic route that the spiritual God did not intend for you to be. Anytime your natural man selects a choice where the yoke is not easy, and the burden is not light, skill will need to tell you to back up right now and just sit tight. You need to close your wanting eyes to that choice, and hear from your skill and experience to shut it down: at this point you will not hear from God because you have already turned your ear away from the direction where He is headed. You have to get to a point where you just know better by now not to take on heavy yokes and burdens. I know, some situations are so dire at times that you think there are no other choices left. This is when you push the “will” button, and prepare to let your sweat be like drops of blood if that what it takes to drink that cup. Look, it’s one thing to call on the name of Jesus when you are down and out, but it’s a whole different thing when you have choices to select from a step away from being down and out unawares. This is where you get to eat your cake and have it too. Yeah, when you can still choose from more than one choice, will you choose His choice no matter the cost? WOW: you eat your cake and have it too!

You know, after all these years, I am still like the dog that didn’t know that dogs don’t climb trees like cats do. The difference for me now compared to twenty years ago is that I will now climb that tree with the cat just as fast as the cat. I no longer wonder on my way up the tree if I am going to make it or if I should be even be climbing up this tree: I know that I should be climbing, and I know that I will make it up the tree. Here’s the thing with proving God. You have to trust in Him more than you trust in the other options that you have around you. It is as simple as that, but it is not as simple if you give that task to the helpful natural man. The helpful natural man can not trust the spiritual God because that is not who he is. The helpful natural man can only trust that which is natural, so stop putting him in that position. Do not look for spiritual results thru the natural eye. You will never see the results when they come. Go ahead and assign from the beginning choices that the natural man can handle, then leave the heavy lifting to the spiritual man. The spiritual man already knows that his job is to keep you plugged in to the almighty’s power source. As long as you are sending your faith and trust up the tree of life, you will climb to your cake and eat it too. The spiritual man wants you, and needs you to stand knowing that all things according to His will, works for your good. So become skill and make it light on the natural man with choices that keeps his blood pressure in check. Then you can turn to the spiritual man and put every expectation that you have on him to plug it into the power source of the almighty God so that you can have your cake and eat it too.
