He looks up on “that” day, and finds himself explaining where he’s been hiding out at lately. Before “that” day, even if Bill hadn’t been around much, no one made it out to be that big of a deal. Everyone would just be happy to see him, and life would go on as usual. So what is the big deal today? What is so different about today that now makes it “that” day: such a different day?
Bill finally convinced himself to go ahead, and make a change in his life by doing something in the dark that he couldn’t explain to anyone in the light. This is why he was thought to be hiding out, and not being seen as much. He was now living most of his life in the dark. When he did come around, he always had to dress his answers up in fig leaves, or I like to call them the deceptive fig leaves of lies. He knew that he couldn’t give up answers from the naked light, so he had to cover himself.
Now we can’t be small minded as we think of Bill’s plight: this may not be a crime of immorality, or illegality. The big crime here is that he continues to live the new life in the dark, and becomes efficient in wearing the proper fig leaves in the light: no one ever distinguished the one from the other. The deception of others became so real for them, that it boomerang right back to him. He was now being fed his deceptions right back from everyone else because that was the truth as they knew it to be. They would ask about his new project, how was his mom coming along, or did he like working his new night shift, and on and on the fig leaves produced. He was now getting deceptions from the left as well as from the right until he began sending them up in prayer.
Father will not answer prayers sent to Him that is not part of the light that He has for everyone. The man prayed, and prayed, but did not get the answers that he desired. He was now living totally in the light, but was no longer aware of the fig leaves of lies that had now become a natural part of his life. He was living in total deception behind his fig leaves, but since he had been doing it so long, he no longer deemed it to be a deception.
Father needs us to check our motivations to make sure that we are living out of his will, and not deceived into believing that Father is going to roll with us in our will. It isn’t going to happen. So Bill is now looking, and waiting for a deceived expectation from father that is not ever going to come. This man has twisted it around so much that he has faith in the very deception that he alone created. God will send people across his path at times with a word of direction, but will the life, and deception be to much noise for him to hear God’s voice?
